American weddings are notorious for being more about personal preference than following any kind of rigid set of traditions. However, one tradition has managed to worm its way into the free form style of American weddings arising from Victorian English roots. The well known phrase, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” is the only consistent American wedding tradition in modern times. In terms of the ‘something blue’, a popular choice is to wear blue wedding shoes or most likely, blue wedding heels.
This upholding of tradition has given rise to a wide variety of blue wedding heels from clean and simple cuts to beautifully decorated, strappy sandals. Also the color of the heels can vary from just the smallest hint of blue in the shading to a dark or even vibrant blue. For the more classical weddings a pastel blue heel would beautifully flow with the pastel pinks and whites. For the modern, cutting edge wedding, the dark or vibrant blue heel would be a great addition. This general freedom of style allows for the matching of themes which is held in high regard by all brides and wedding planners.
A very common decoration for these shoes is a flower or bow, lending a fun, flirty flair to the formal aura of the wedding ensemble. The wide range of colors will allow for the bride to tastefully coordinate the various colors of her wedding from the flowers to the bridesmaids dresses and bathing suits. As with any type of heel these blue shoes come from all popular brands and sold in all popular retail stores.
Because this tradition is the only consistent one in American weddings it is usually followed to the best of the wedding parties abilities. Blue wedding shoes allow for all styles and personal preferences to be upheld and expressed in one of the most important moments of a person’s life. The wide range of shades and styles make this an easy way to fulfill the tradition of having ‘something blue’.
